About "CFB"

About The College Fund Band

Several years ago I was passing through the Faneuil Hall area in Boston with my two boys, Jack and Dan, who were 10 and 7 years old, respectively, at the time.  Jack particularly enjoyed the various street performers we saw, and as we walked away from one musical act, Jack asked, "Can I do that?"  Of course, Dan chimed in and said, "Hey, I want to do that, too!"

Just like that, the idea was born, and as crazy as it sounded at first, the idea grew.

Music has always been a big part of my life.  In fact, I had been in a family band when I was the same age as my sons.  The boys had taken music lessons for years and seemed to enjoy the opportunity to perform.  After further reflection, we began to see it as a fun, creative family activity.

Of course, it is one thing to play music together as a family and another thing entirely to busk on the street.  I felt a little uncomfortable about it but thought that if we were going to do it, we ought to have a meaningful reason for doing so.  We were discussing it at dinner one night when my husband joked that we should call the group the "College Fund Band".  We all laughed for awhile, but the name stuck!

After three years of playing in Harvard Square, we felt ready to audition for Faneuil Hall--and we made it!  I am very proud of the boys for working hard and reaching their goal.  We have a lot of fun and love playing together.

If you are in Boston and want to check us out, the College Fund Band will be playing three or four times a week at Faneuil Hall over the summer...check out the showtimes on the website. You can also go straight to our Facebook page.
